I have recently seen some questions about data download speeds, so maybe this download speed timing test will help some folks.

 

I just started doing a Yahoo historical download of about 7700 files starting on 01/03/1975 to 12/28/2004.

I waited till 300 files were completed, and then computed the estimated time that it will take to finish the process.

Based on .046 minutes per file, I estimate that it will take about 6 hours to download all of these 7700 historical files.

I have an AMD Athlon 1gigahertz processor and 768 of RAM.

wm - current EOD equity and index quotes are available about 20-30 minute after the market closes and mutual funds after 6.  Historical is somewhat later, perhaps 8 or so.  For intraday, you might be interested in QuoteTracker.
