For what it's worth, seasonally the s&p500 index has closed higher on or about Oct 22 than it closed on or about Sept 25 in 14 of the last 15 years.  The only loser (a big one) was in 2000.  The average net profit was 14.27 points.  This from the people at mrci.com.
