You only have half of the formula in crime and
punishment. You have the crime, but not the fitting punishment. It is all risk
reward for these high profile cases. If you make the risk high enough then
there would be far less of a problem. Here is a psychic who advertised on
TV, bilked $1 billion dollars on a 900 number. Was forced to forgive $500
million in charges and was fined $5 million dollars. In my poor math state
that leaves $$495 million in revenue kept by the backers, sans costs. Not bad.
Just another case of crime paying big and punishment not totally adjudicated as
yet.
