         INVESTOR SENTIMENT SURVEY

                 10 / 4 / 98

------------------------------------------------

Below are the results of our weekly "Guess the Dow" sentiment survey. The
survey was taken from 9/21 through 9/27 on our web site.

Number of participants: 409

30 day outlook:

27% bullish, 37% last week
49% bearish, 53% last week
24% neutral, 11% last week

(percentages may not sum to 100 due to rounding)

Median guess for the DJIA closing value on Friday, 10/9: 7777 (it was 8020
last week). More complete sentiment data is available at
<http://www.lowrisk.com/sentiment.htm> .

Bullish and bearish sentiment both dropped this week. The neutral camp was
the big gainer this week, up 13% to 24%. Bearish sentiment remains very
high at 49%, but any decline in bearishness is very surprising given last
week's market drop. This leaves us thinking that the bulls are not out of
the woods just yet.
