Security Options such as the OEX....SPX.....NDX settle into cash..they
can be either american or european(OEX IS AMERICAN). They can be traded
by any securities(series 7 )broker.
Futures options settle into the futures contract...different
multipliers(right now the S & P is 500, but that changes sdhortly).
Brokers need a future's license.
Securities option have a public limit order book with customer
protection and every possible order qualifier is available,,,except in
fast markets AON IOC MIT LMT PARITY +/- price benchmarks to futures,
etc.
