off topic - h/w diagnostics

Anyone know of any hardware diagnostic tools around?  I just had a win
2000/ntfs machine spontaneously reboot while sitting idle, except for order
entry and email software . Windows is fine after restarting...I am thinking
it sounds like memory gone bad, but really don't know where to start. The
only other idea that comes to mind is that I was doing a lot of graphics
stuff in win word over the weekend...more than once win word crashed it, and
I did not reboot after getting done.  Any ideas?

Thanks and sorry for yet another computer question;  the last 2 weeks I have
definately done something to anger the computer gods. :-(
