DTN receiver and TS2k

Now, don't hold your breath on this or even bet on Omega creating an
ethernet server for TS2k, but DTN tech support says Omega is looking at the
ethernet capability of the new receiver. There is no question, but Omega
needs a satellite delivery capability if they want reliability, highspeed,
and lots of symbol capability, especially when options are in the feed.

Here is a bit more information regarding the TE920 high speed serial port
capacity to handle the data stream. The "advertised" rate of data on the
new satellite is 1 megabit. The RS232 serial port out of the new receiver
is still 460KB max. Omega GS as we know has zero handshaking and receives
all data coming out of the port and does not use a Watch List like Chameleon
does. In other words Chameleon can handle the high speed on the RS232
serial port because it sends a Watch List to the receiver and only data in
that watch list is fed out the port to the computer. Thus, Omega server may
not be able to grab the data fast enough but Chameleon can handle a
specified list. So, here is a way to temporarily solve this problem until
Omega sees fit to upgrade their server to ethernet capability. What you can
do in the meantime if you know what symbols you want to track in the GS is
to run Chameleon on one computer and the Global Server on a second computer.
Split the RS232 line using a diode protected splitter from B&B electronics.,
model number 9PMDS for $29.95 includes shipping, http://www.bb-elec.com.
When all is connected, Start the Global Server online first, then when it
says Connected, put the Chameleon computer online. Then enter all the
symbols you want to monitor in the GS also into the Chameleon Quote list and
the data will appear in both computers without overload. For example, if
you enter the symbol in the TS2k Quote monitor or Radar screen and it is not
in Chameleon Quote, then no data appears, but if you then enter the symbol
into Chameleon Quote it suddenly appears in the Radar Screen or Quote
Monitor. Since Chameleon is put online second, it then controls what data
is sent out of the receiver and the GS will not overflow. Of course this is
not authorized, supported, sanctioned, or whatever by either company.
