Multiple-monitor Support[PARA][NL]Windows 98 also provides support for
multiple monitors, a long-time Macintosh feature favored by graphic artists
and programmers. Although this feature would be useful to CAD designers,
financial traders, and other professionals, most of them will likely stick
with more robust Unix or NT environments. [PARA]Windows 98 makes multiple
monitor setup fairly easy and lets you connect as many as eight external
monitors to a single PC, for a total of nine monitors. To connect two
monitors, you need a PCI graphics adapter with a supported chip set such as
the ATI 64 GX, the S3 765, or the Cirrus 5436. To use several monitors at
once, you must use a special video adapter, such as the STB MPV, which
provides up to 4 VGA connections per card. [PARA]Built-in USB support in
Windows 98 should inspire the production of a broad selection of available
devices. IEEE 1394 and multiple-monitor support have less mass appeal but
are long-awaited and welcome additions. As new devices emerge, Windows 98
will likely become a more attractive upgrade.
