There are many programs that can do what you want. I use a free program
called "Mail Spy" by SaberQuest which can be downloaded from ZDNet's FTP
area at http://www.hotfiles.com/. The program checks your POP Email
account every 10 minutes (or whatever) and tells you if you have mail. A
side effect of this is that it simulates activity which keeps you from
getting disconnected.
