Can't help you with the specific problem, but I doubt that increasing your
Ram will help.  I'm running 96 Meg with TS 4.0 along with about 15
additional programs, including a multi access Internet link without any
problems.  
       
You might check the number of File Selectors (discussed here previously)
available to your system before the condition occurs to see if the pool
might be low-- this will cause a system to lock-up or crash.
