Sorted it out with MS help (it did take a day though, but the help was accurate and to the point). Just renamed the CashonDemand directory and MS created a new one when I started up again. Everything works fine now so I did not bother any further. I use QuoteCenter for data.

As a guess:
1. Close Metastock and search for the "DataOnDemand Cache".
2. Backup the contents.
3. Delete any strange files ie ~MSFL.*
4. Make sure that you only have EMASTER and MASTER apart from the
F*.dat files.
