   i searched on internet and found the 
following :
 
   Upgrade to SP1  looks like an answer to 
your question ?
 
   Beware of "losing settings problems" when 
going to SP2
   (can leave SP1 alone in that 
case)

                  Error Message When You Use Windows Explorer to Search for 
                  Files or Folders
            
            The information in this article applies to:
            
              Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional 
              Microsoft Windows 2000 Server 
              Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
            
            
            SYMPTOMS
            When you try to perform a search in Windows Explorer, you may 
            receive the following error message: 
            
              The instruction at 0x778aa57 reference 
              memory at "0x3b0046". The memory cannot be read. 
            
            CAUSE
            This problem can occur if you have added more than 64 file types 
            in Folder Options. For example, this can occur if you previously 
            added more than 64 file types by clicking Folder Options on 
            the Tools menu in Windows Explorer to add file types to the 
            File Types tab. 
            RESOLUTION
            To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for 
            Windows 2000. For additional information, please see the following
