> I would like to export reports from the Explorer and System Tester into the Microsoft Works
spreadsheet and database. Since Metastock doesn't offer this option, it occurred to me that I could
print one of these reports to a file and then convert the file to a text file that Works could read.
I have tried several file conversion utilities, but so far I haven't been able to get any of them to
convert this file to something that Works can read. Has anyone tried this already? Can anyone
recommend a utility that will convert these files to the required format? Thanks very much!

It is very easy to transfer MS reports to Works or Excel, and also possible to print to file using a
generic/text only printer. I will try to describe both procedures.

Transfer MS report to Works (spreadsheet) or Excel.
1. Open the MS report and highlight (mark) any line other than the top line.
2. Ctrl/C (keyboard shortcut for Copy).
3. Open a new spreadsheet.
4. Ctrl/V (keyboard shortcut for paste)
End of procedure.

Print report, indicator, exploration or system test to a text file.
1. Create a "Generic / Text Only" printer using Windows add a new printer feature. This has nothing
to do with Metastock, and should be possible with any version of Windows. I have done it with 3.11,
95 and 98SE
2. Open the MS report (or whatever) to be printed to file
3. Select the Print button.
4. Select Printer Name "Generic / Text Only".
5. OK to close print window. A "Print To File" window now opens.
6. Navigate to the folder you want and enter a file name to save the file as and clock OK.
End of procedure.

Both these procedures work although there may be slight variations depending on which version of
Windows and MetaStock you have. The *.PRN file created created by printing to the Generic / Text
Only printer is ideally suited for word processing applications, while the copy and paste method is
ideal for spreadsheets. Try them, you'll like them.
