Ref(X,-1) allows you to look at yesterdays (previous bar) value of an ALREADY DEFINED variable (X).
Prev allows you to look at yesterdays value of the variable you are CURRENTLY CREATING, and use that
value to determine or modify the value or status of the current day/bar. Hence the term "self
referencing".
