Lionel,
A last comment on this OOT subject.
You are correct about e-mail folders... but OE is client software to read
both e-mails and Usenet articles. The input folder organization looks
something like :
-- Input folders
-- E-mail
-- POP Server #1 input folder
-- ...
-- ...
-- POP Server #n input folder
-- Usenet
-- News Server #1 input folder
-- Newsgroup #1.1 (eg be.providers)
-- ...
-- ...
-- Newsgroup #1.k (eg misc.invest.technical)
-- ...
-- ...
-- News Server #n input folder
You can perform the manipulations describeb below on any E-mail input folder
:delete individual, copy, move, etc. You CANNOT on newsgroup input folders :
only copy is available.
- How to read an e-mail input folder ? - Read, delete, read, copy, move,
read, delete.... break... read, delete, read, copy, etc. ... until empty
folder
- How to read a newsgroup input folder ? - Read, copy, read, copy, mark
where you are .... break... read, copy, read, copy... when all articles
scanned, right click on folder name, properties, local file, suppress all
headers & bodies
So, what I'm saying is that the commands to process an input folder are
totally different between e-mail and Usenet. There is absolutely no reason
for such an incoherent user interface. None.
Even worse. Usenet articles are usually shown in threads by client software.
Threads can be extended (+) or collapsed (-). OE does that fine in newsgroup
input folders... but the thread extend/collapse feature is not available for
the custom folders where newsgroup threads have eventually been archived.
Summary
- Incoherent command set between e-mail and Usenet articles
- Incoherent thread views between Usenet articles in input folders and the
same in custom (archive) folders.
Alain.
