I have to agree with Chris - use plain text whenever you can.
Why? there are several reasons. One of the reasons
is that these messages are smaller.
This may not be an issue for you but if I create archive
of all 33000 messages it DOES matter.

HTML is good when you are using it to enhance display
(posting images embedded in the text or sending
formatted messages). I use HTML in the readme files
that come with beta announcements because
then these messages are more clear and readable.
But for ordinary posts (without pictures and nice formatting)
there is really no point in using HTML.
